Picturing My Climate Future is a documentary initiative by Seeing for Ourselves (SFO), a nonprofit organization that empowers marginalized communities to share their narratives through photography. Piloted in March 2023 in partnership with Cape Elizabeth High School in Maine, the project invites students to capture images reflecting their perspectives on climate change, using their smartphones to document their local environments. The initiative seeks to raise awareness about the urgent issues young people face regarding climate change.

The Weight of Water weaves together three deeply moving stories set in Nepal, where communities are grappling with out-of-season flooding and severe droughts intensified by climate change. These natural disasters don’t just disrupt daily life; they hinder economic progress and erode hard-won gains, compounding existing injustices and creating nearly insurmountable obstacles for the region’s people. This feature-length documentary offers intimate, firsthand perspectives from Nepali communities and climate experts, allowing viewers to experience the impact of these crises through the voices of those directly affected. It’s a story of resilience and urgency—a call to action to bring global attention to the human cost of environmental neglect.
The Weight of Water | Trailer
Barangay Laiban, a remote community in the province of Rizal, Philippines, is home to over 200 families. For many of its indigenous residents, gathering water from riversides and springs has been a cultural practice. They rely on upland springs as a primary water source. During the rainy season, this becomes a challenge as water becomes turbid, making it difficult to access clean and potable water — often leading to health problems like diarrhea. The Zain Jaffer Foundation, in partnership with Waves For Water Philippines, visited this community in March of 2024 with a mission to provide clean water access. Through this project, the Foundation provided water filters for 245 households, ensuring better health and well-being for the community. Learn more at zainjafferfoundation.org and wavesforwater.org.
Clean Water for Barangay Laiban | The Zain Jaffer Foundation x Waves for Water
In northern Kerala, Sreejith and his family work tirelessly to continue their father’s legacy, by planting and preserving mangroves along the coast in order to protect communities from further coastal erosion and extreme weather events. In his lifetime, Kallen Pokkudan was a renowned environmentalist, who came from extremely humble beginnings; an illiterate farmer from the lowest caste in India, the dalits, who dedicated his life to mangrove conservation despite coming up against adversity time and time again. Every day, the mangroves that Pokkudan’s sons and their families nurture, become healthier habitats for the incredible wildlife that live among them, increasing fish stocks for the fishing communities, whilst also sequestering vast amounts more carbon than trees.

In an informal settlement in Ahmedabad, the summer months are becoming more and more unbearable, as the heat increases, and residents endure temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius for months on end. Many people work from home, tailoring, cooking, and making handicrafts in their modest living spaces, with poor ventilation, making it incredibly difficult to maintain their livelihoods. A group of elderly women, called The Climate Saathi's (climate partners), travel door to door, to educate the community about affordable solutions to climate change issues. One such example is the cooling roof, which reduces indoor temperatures drastically. Another is energy-efficient lightbulbs, which not only reduce the expulsion of heat but save precious rupees too.

Anjana is a female farmer and single mother from a small village in Maharashtra state, a region where farmer suicides are devastatingly common. This is, in part, due to the high frequency of droughts that occur in the region, often causing harvests to fail. After tragically losing her husband to a farming accident when her two children were young, Anjana faced great adversity to make ends meet and provide for them and her elderly in-laws. Now that her children are older, and able to help her on the farm, Anjana has committed herself to helping her community become more climate resilient through a variety of effective farming techniques. From an electricity-free cold storage solution like the subjee cooler (vegetable cooler) to organic fertilizers made from waste material, these adaptation solutions are having an enormously positive impact on the lives of people in her community and beyond.
