Every 16 seconds, a baby is stillborn—nearly two million deaths yearly. Despite its scale, stillbirth remains one of the most overlooked public health issues, absent from global agendas and undercounted in medical systems. Many cases are preventable, yet warning signs often go unnoticed and parental concerns are dismissed.
Documentary Before a Breath highlights families failed by the healthcare systems. Simple interventions like placental screening (EPV) and fetal movement monitoring (Count the Kicks) can save lives, but awareness and implementation are lacking.
Beyond prevention, grief support is minimal, often met with silence, leaving families isolated. The Zain Jaffer Foundation is working with advocates and researchers to raise awareness, improve care, and strengthen protocols. Stillbirth is not inevitable—and fewer families should have to endure this loss.
